@EpicKitty Basically, it stops robots from scanning or interacting with your file, kinda like robots.txt. Of course, this only works if the robot respects the nobot tag. For example, using the #nobots tag stops @followbot from following you. Hope I helped π
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat What did they add? Apple is known for using already-existent technologies and getting praised for inventing said technology.
@Gargron I visited their help centre and found this
https://help.gab.com/faq/what-is-gab
"you can either have an account on Gab.com, or, if you don't like what we're doing on Gab.com or simply want to manage your own experience, you can spin up your own Gab Social server that you control, that allows you to communicate with millions of users on their own federated servers from around the world, including users on Gab."
So, Gab users can interact with the rest of the fediverse, but not vice-versa.
@Gargron Good. They seem to have made their own federation system, although I doubt anyone uses it.
@Gargron I think they left mastodon now
@fristi @TheFuzzStone yes that's true π

So Gab has decided that their own code that they spent $5M of investor money developing is so unsalvageably bad that they're going to use Mastodon's code instead, with the added bonus of leeching off of our apps (with Gab apps being banned from app stores)
This is an early warning to fellow admins to be vigilant and domain-block them on sight, when/if they appear (unconfirmed whether they intend to federate), and to app devs to consider if blocking Gab's domains from their app is necessary.
@LinuxLounge 1080p is still HD!
@ak I asked our librarian why we do this, and it's basically because of rights issues. The library has to buy a copy from the publisher, and then that one copy gets checked out. The library can opt to buy more copies of a book, but you can't buy infinity books.
@kravietz Yes, I can see it π

@LinuxLounge Seems you did π
@BBCNews Wow. That's rare.
@duck amazing. Thanks for brining this wonderful knowledge to the fediverse. I am now enlightened.
Hi there! I'm new here. I have an account at @nar, which I might move to, but I seem to like this instance more for now.
