@georgia@dickkickextremist.xyz nope. Can't do it there. OG Riot (and therefore minivector) cannot cross sign.

So maybe someone knows the answer to this. A few days ago I rage quit Riot.im/matrix.org and lo and behold 2 days later they release an update allowing cross signing to solve the friction with regard to verification. So I tried to test it out. Turns out, if you have no active session you cannot ever verify your sessions again, apparently. Unless there's something that is not so apparent?

Does anyone reading this know how to verify your only session in Riotx or riot desktop?

@Wetrix no way. You can't run someone over with the internet. A license to talk to other people? That's pretty authoritarian. What if *you* don't pass the test?

@georgia@dickkickextremist.xyz yeah actually that does sound delicious. I'm gonna try it. What about nutella and marshmallow fluff.

@georgia@dickkickextremist.xyz I don't know what that is. But if you tell me and it is an actual type of food I'll try it.

@Wetrix you mentioned IQ but you have to remember, there are actual people with an IQ below 90. Its like George Carlin said, "think of how stupid the average person is and realize half of them are stupider than that". I don't think most people are stupid, but there are 1-2 billion actual dumb people in the world just by the odds. They live their daily lives, make decisions, and many of them believe nonsense. It cannot be helped really.

@phoenix to whom? You allow random people to use your server and you allow 80081355 characters. You can't be that bad.

@georgia@dickkickextremist.xyz @niggaflamebuttholeaids @l0wk3y @moonman lol upside down they look like fangs fro. Buffy but less scary

@piggo what would you have us use? I'm personally a fan of hometown myself.

Looking for a good social proof solution following Keybase's acquisition this morning? Check out @wiktor's decentralized solution built on PGP! metacode.biz/openpgp/proofs I'm setting my key up now 😄

@phoenix yeah but all you do is set up a service to update an opennic DNS server with your instance IP and now you've got an opennic gateway to your instance.

@nikolal which was their goal don't you think? Make it difficult to move away. Now you're stuck. You don't find that approach shady?

Zoom acquired Keybase today.

Keybase helped me to identify a trend in the software industry: using a pretty UI to cover up the disruption of an open ecosystem with a closed, centralized replacement. Keybase seemed cool on the face of it - making encryption easier is a laudible goal, and PGP certainly could use the improvement. But, thanks to Keybase, now I ask different questions upfront.

Beware the Keybase formula:

1. Integrates with an existing, open ecosystem
2. May have open-source clients, but server is closed source and does not federate
3. Pretty UI and good marketing
4. VC funded

@phoenix can't you just register your existing one with an opennic domain? I know AP identifies instances by domain and it would appear that there are 2 servers on the network, but wouldn't it work?

@phoenix man I've got nothing. Did you make sure to install the 64 bit version of the gcc-go compiler? I think it has something to do with default installing only 32 bit dependencies or something like that.

@phoenix oh shit I've run into this exact error, I don't remember how I solved it, let me look around.

@phoenix alright a lot of compilers for Linux depend on GCC, and I've run into errors similar to this on 64 bit systems, try updating GCC and see if you can find a package named lib64 lib64 and update it.

@phoenix you're missing some 64 bit library dependency for what you're trying to compile. I'm guessing you're trying to compile with cmake (GCC)? Try this stackoverflow.com/questions/38 you may have already found it but if not try it.

Otherwise try to update your C compiler/GCC (make sure to include all 64 bit dependencies) and see if it works.
