Does the weird freezing bug happen when you play remote streams? Like from mounted remote filesystems? I'm guessing your freezing bug causes VLC to not be able to close and you can't play media files until you restart the system, correct?

There's no feeling like searching online for a solution to a problem only to find your own post somewhere from a year ago that lays out the solution in detail. Even bigger points if your solution was a response to your own request and you documented it to help others that have the problem in the future.

This is a fact though if you've used SSH and messed with systemd you can be a sysadmin no problem.
