@Wetrix
So they're trying to pass a law that would give some unelected committee the ability to make whatever rules they want about how internet companies operate online, specifically initially targeting encryption but god knows what later on. Screw this.

@georgia
I'm with you on that one. I just think all of it from all sides is empty rhetoric designed to get us mad so that we react without thinking. These people want our agency and how they do it is to make us emotional. They want to influence our behavior. They want to make us act in a way that benefits them, probably at our own expense.
@nerthos

@georgia
There's rank partisanship all round. The house was entirely partisan, the senate is being entirely partisan, the news is, your friends can do no wrong but the opponents are the devil who want to kill babies/gas minorities/whatever. The whole thing is a team game with no ethics, meanwhile both teams want to scare you into supporting them with their moralistic fearmongering.
@nerthos

@georgia
I mean, that's one narrative, the opposing party has another. Either way, do you really care about that? I doubt anybody sincerely cares, seems pretty tame to me in comparison to some of the things the last 8 presidents have done that nobody gave a shit about.
@nerthos

@georgia
Yes.

But really, anyone appealing to emotion is trying to bypass your rationality firewall. I have things I believe to be moral or immoral, but any time someone directly tries to appeal to a moralistic ideal rather than rationality I am immediately suspicious.
@nerthos

@georgia
Have you noticed that pleroma FE let's you turn off replies to other people but it doesn't work on other clients? I've been losing it with Pleroma lately because I get flooded with replies that I'm not involved in everywhere but the Pleroma web UI, even Mastodon FE has the problem.

@georgia
That presupposes evil. I personally am skeptical of any moralistic appeal. Everyone on TV is accusing everyone else of being the devil, I don't want to buy into anyone's appeal to emotion.
@nerthos

@georgia
Dude chill out, politics is like wrestling anyway, don't let the TV people get you riled up, life is still exactly the same as it was a week ago.

@rw
You should also check out gunpowder green tea, I drink them both and I don't even think about monster anymore.

@liaizon
There is also littr.me github.com/mariusor/littr.go which is another attempt similar to prismo in that it does not focus on communities.
