Maybe "I don't want to use my face for other reasons" or "I think anonymity is important" or something more broad. Or maybe "I want to use my face but don't think it necessarily makes this place better". What if you know people but still don't want to use your face? The question strikes me as loaded, like "no thanks, I don't want free stuff" popups on websites.

What? That isn't what the GPL says though, not even a little. You don't have to read into what it says, just read what it says, there's nothing about "communal ownership" or "giving back to the collective". A license by definition is verbose, literal and self explanatory, there is no "my take" about it, it says what it says, any other interpretation is flat out wrong.

It is important, you just have to get the broadest feature set right, which is going to he hard without analytics in fedilab. I wouldn't use analytics of course, you're probably going to be doing a lot of these polls to see what features to put in the lite version.
