@nikolal Ain't that the truth.

I tried for years to get people i know to use XMPP and all sorts of other ones. I finally got some of them to use Matrix, but now i am backed into a corner because unless Matrix and Vector clean up their security I am going to want to ditch it and i doubt i will have any luck getting all those people to switch again.

People act like communication tools are mutually exclusive.

@superfren fediverse.space/ only works for mastodon and pleroma but it shows actual federation between instances of them rather than a per server/network map like your link.

Just a general warning to anyone who uses #paypal -- never keep a balance in your account. They terminated the account I was using for @TShirtsBot and also for consulting work. They froze the money in my account for 3 months and refused to give me any reason why even after talking to someone on the phone. :yikes: #fuckpaypal

@Wetrix
I noticed you post a lot from /r/privacy which I check out frequently, that sort of stuff is pretty relevant to me, although you've got to soft through some BS from time to time.

is great for tech stuff.

is a new news org that claims to want to deliver news, not opinion. We will see if they pan out.

Generally all news is going to have a bent. Some have blatant agendas and others try to pretend to not be sensational hacks.

@astheroth
Systemd is actually pretty awesome once you get used to it. I resisted for a long time but I'm pretty impressed with it after using it for a while.

@fedilab
Its because people want to pressure you into joining their ideological cause because their cause doesn't inspire real support otherwise. If they were so kind and noble they wouldn't have to resort to shit like this, people would flock to them for moral guidance on their own. You build a valuable tool and that means they need to capture you or they can't push people around as easily. Don't be bullied into anything.

hatespeech-friendly clients, blocking, x0r.be

@cjd
I appreciate your view on this from an experimentation perspective, but I don't think anyone should be engineering "high quality conversation" for others or a wider network as that means different things to different people.

Also "just a social network" makes them seem less important than they are. They're tools for people to organize, that is important.

re: hatespeech-friendly clients, blocking, x0r.be

@szbalint
You think the client is the wrong layer to do the blocking from eh? And this doesn't apply to fedilab why, exactly? Wouldn't an analogue to domain registrars be, I dunno, instances?

@szbalint
Oh god and I actually almost registered an account with your instance. I'm glad I didn't. "Hate speech" is a dog whistle for you guys at this point.

@astheroth You're messing with a chromebook right? What is it that you dislike about Gallium? I installed it for a friend once a long time ago and I thought it was alright.

@Wetrix That shit is fucked right? I spent a good portion of yesterday being significantly pissed about this. I am on the verge of checking out with regard to politics and giving a shit about any of it.

@fedilab It is a self hostable message scheduler for Mastodon/Pleroma? That is interesting. I have never dabbled with scheduled toots, I always assumed that they are essentially useless unless you are marketing something

@Wetrix
Did you try search.privacytools.io ? It is a searx instance. The results are pretty good.
