@kumicota
Yeah, so right now if you run a mastodon server it connects to existing ones by default, and you have to specify which other servers you want to block, this is called a blacklist.

Some people are talking about giving servers the option of a whitelist, which means the server won't connect to anything that isn't on that list. This means that federation is broken by default, because you have to explicitly say what servers you connect to. I hope it doesn't happen.

@dielan
I was actually thinking about this, because I was looking at running a Pleroma instance that I do not want federated, I just want to use it for myself and some personal friends of mine to communicate. I was interested in the possibility of running an unfederated instance.

Is it so dangerous we shouldn't have the capability? That's a very tricky question.
@Drawfag @JoYo @kumicota

@JoYo
Have you checked out the Zot protocol? I have only given it a high level look but it looks like what AP wishes it were.
@dielan

@JoYo
You know, i tend to agree with this the more i consider it, and dielan's status shitposter.club/objects/c1340d these nutbags can blacklist and whitelist themselves out of an open federation if they like, who really cares. If all they want to do is talk to each other, fine.
@Drawfag @dielan

TIL: if you use “share my location with this site” in Firefox, your location is shared with that site and Google: google.com/privacy/lsf.html

@JoYo
If they do it I will probably stop thinking about them completely. It would be kinda nice imo. The admins willing to use a whitelist mode were never ready to embrace decentralization in the first place
@Drawfag

@JoYo
If they move to whitelisting federation is dead. The server will be forked. People like you running your own instance will be cut off from the whitelist based servers. That is not cool.

Lol I think i have been blocked by him because the last time i saw a post of his i replied calling him an authoritarian that wants to control discussion. They don't like sunlight that much. Kind of meta, finding this discussion now.

"Masta broke from the AP protocol? Seems like they are doing it right and everyone else is doing it wrong" hah.

@dielan I reply whenever i see him crusading against free association between nodes on the federated network on the grounds that right wingers are so dangerous we must all abandon our principles or we are just as bad as them and therefore the enemy. I feel it is important to call out, after all, sunlight is the best disinfectant.

@fedilab
This is a complete joke. Communist crusaders, that's what they are. Talk about fascism and then do everything in their power to destroy people that don't conform to their demands. They are the ones harassing people, on the grounds of protecting you from harassment. If they had their way it would be firing squads and gulags, just like every country they ever came to power in.

The silver lining is all they will acomplish is blacklisting themselves out of the federation. Good riddance.

it's not that if you talk to nazis you get converted, it's that the mainstream is wrong and insane and its positions are easily refuted, and it also regards anything oppositional to it as a form of nazism. the "rise in nazism" is just the collapse of mainstream governing legitimacy as seen through the diseased eyes of the mainstream.

You can remove preinstalled uneccessary apps from your android phone without root access using adb tool, I just got rid of HiSearch from my Huawei and its just beautiful. You can search for your device in particular but principle is same. How to do it is here:
