@Wetrix well, because I see you post a lot of stuff from r/privacy, how deep into keeping yourself private do you go?
@mister_monster hmm I'd say more than the average person for sure. Here's a few things I do for example.
Never use real name anywhere
Use only privacy browsers
Never post pictures online
All privacy features enabled
In general my attitude is that the world is on a need to know basis about me 😁🌏
@Wetrix yeah, well we all want to get to know the people we interact with, even online, ABK sometimes that means we make mistakes. Sometimes we think we are doing a good job with privacy but it is very hard with social media, even ones like Mastodon. I go to great lengths to protect mine as well, like not posting pictures of myself, even though it is tempting. But I know that some info about me can be gleaned from what I do post, and that can add up over time and create patterns. It is a battle.
@Wetrix yeah I think that anyone determined enough could find out about someone, our jobs is to make that as hard as possible.I posted some pictures of some creatures I caught and that could be used to determine what region I live in. You'll create patterns, even if you try to hide it in noise. If even 1/28 posts you make give something away, someone could pick up on it. Imagine what a machine algorithm could do.
Anyway I'm glad people are interested in privacy, but we can always do more.
@mister_monster I'm sure someone could try to put together a picture of who I am, but it would be a distorted picture and alot more effort than most people would ever goto to find out about me, so there's probably good odds I would find out about them to 😅
