I had a dog that swallowed a rag, needed 4k surgery to save him. I paid for it, he died the next day from shock. I don't regret trying.

I'd only do it if I were prepared to go all the way and fix whatever is wrong. If you don't want to put him through treatment then you shouldn't do it. You should just give him lots of love for what he has left.
