The reason I'm hopeful for Dune 2020 is two reasons:
1. The director read the books and also did not like the David Lynch movie. What book readers understand that movie and tv adaptation miss out on is that Paul Atreides is not the good guy and is punished for his hubris. The only character in the saga even remotely resembling a hero is Paul's son Leto II who becomes the God Emperor. He is known for being the worst tyrant in the history of the universe. Exponentially more oppressive and tyrannical than his father Paul, who is responsible for 61 billion deaths in his jihad, and is known to compare himself to literal Hitler. His oppression was on purpose because he could see the future. He denied space travel to all planets so that when he died the people would scatter farther than ever, way out of the stagnat comfort zone desperate to never be ruled by single entity again. Even his death was noble because his death was only possible because his oppression led to the development of rooms and ships whose occupants were immune to his future sight, and his breeding program produced humans immune at all times to it - as he knew a non human threat would emerge after his death that would abuse those prescient powers to wipe out humanity, rendered impossible due to those inventions. He turned himself into a human sandworm hybrid so he could live about 3500 years to see it all through - constantly using his future sight to confirm humanity was on the Golden Path - the only possible course of events where humans dont go extinct. What a selfless hero that ugly worm man
2. Its going to be two movies
