What? That isn't what the GPL says though, not even a little. You don't have to read into what it says, just read what it says, there's nothing about "communal ownership" or "giving back to the collective". A license by definition is verbose, literal and self explanatory, there is no "my take" about it, it says what it says, any other interpretation is flat out wrong.
