nah its a perfectly legitimate stance. GPL is fine, but not the only valid strategy. you can call me names if you like, but I don't use GPL either. all of my work is public domain or equivalent. my goal is to get people thinking about networking and messaging differently, so GPL doesn't factor into my strat because it puts limits on disseminating the information.

My take is the GPL establishes communal ownership. If you aren’t willing to give back to the collective then you’re not permitted to use it.

MIT/BSD don’t have those restrictions. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your objectives.

What? That isn't what the GPL says though, not even a little. You don't have to read into what it says, just read what it says, there's nothing about "communal ownership" or "giving back to the collective". A license by definition is verbose, literal and self explanatory, there is no "my take" about it, it says what it says, any other interpretation is flat out wrong.
