I have made a small improvement to YouTube2PeerTube. The tool now has the ability to mirror YT videos directly without downloading and then uploading them! If you have bandwidth restrictions and/or have no interest in archiving videos you mirror, you now have a more lightweight option.
@Maza
Yeah I think it is important too. And it is a relatively simple tool, I was surprised that nobody had done it. There are tools to import videos from YT, but none that maintain a mirror for you. Or at least there were none, now there is one.
@mister_monster oh this...this I like
@JapanAnon I am glad you do, we all have to do our part to help kill the beast. Spread it far and wide, I would love for lots of people to use this tool to mirror as many YT channels as possible. If you don't care about locally archiving videos there is an option to directly mirror without download and upload using Peertube's HTTP/magnet API. I will be leaving functionality for download/upload and direct mirror in case YT blocks Peertube instances like they are doing with Invidious.
@mister_monster That project I've got cooking is meant to help popularize PeerTube as a backup/alt for YouTube refugees...I'd like to work this tool into it if possible
@JapanAnon If it fits your needs, go ahead, it is licensed AGPL so it is technically yours if you use it. I can offer any insight you might need.
@mister_monster I'll be getting back to you with questions in future, I'm sure. Thanks.
@mister_monster this is important work! Well done
