Rewatching The Matrix and it only now occurs to me the characters should (or at least could) have different ages in and out of the matrix. Everyone is exactly the same, with a different haircut. It's explained that neo has "residual self image" but you'd expect someone like Morpheus could choose a different avatar. Or, rather, shouldn't the captain person be someone with many (many) more years experience bending reality? Older in reality, but projecting as a younger, more robust avatar?
