I know right. I think that for a lot of people the loss of tolerance for different world views was partly the result of constant incivility. When you've got an intellectually diverse network and people are actually civil it just seems to me everyone is less hostile.
I've got a few of pleroma/mastodon accounts on a few instances, and even though they federate, i prefer this one because i feel the most comfortable here.
