I think we will, but I bet there's a lot on their plate right now.
qoto.org has lots of custom code and there's a cool feature that lets you browse other server's public timeline. It's not super reliable though, there is some delay, but still very nice.

That said, I already moved to another instance and also made my profile more anonymous so I'm not gonna use the "move" feature.

@Wetrix
I head this advice somewhere and remind myself about it every time I'm stressed about the future.

Imagine 4 weeks have already passed, you do have a place to live, you moved somehow, you found a work or maybe still looking for it.
Then imagine 8 weeks have passed, and eventually everything is how you wanted it to be, or maybe not so perfect, but you can live with that.
The logic behind it is that you're gonna be there and then, and today's stress won't matter.
This really helps me.

@Meast
Actually thanks to your post I stopped being lazy and found the filter (wanted this myself too).

Which feed do you mean? There's Home - this is what you subscribed to, Local - your instance's timeline, Federated timeline - the world.

I'm debating not using a smartphone when the one I have dies, but there is still no popular encrypted messenger here that I can use on Linux.
Telegram does not support e2e on PCs.
So I'll probably just order a smartphone from Europe.

I also game a lot on PC, but at the same time I love tinkering with Linux, so I switched early 2018, several months after DXVK was first released.
Running a Windows game with a Linux Steam client looked so unreal back then.
Proton and DXVK made huge progress since then, I'm sure they'll satisfy your needs, unless you can't live without multiplayer games with anti-cheats, those do not work on Linux.

I too understand that decision, Russia is trying to protect local IT sector from unfair competition (preinstalled apps from Google, etc). But keeping in mind the absurd level of corruption here, I bet no small independent app without spyware included will ever make it to the list.
So what does the user get? Twice the spyware, less battery life, popular apps that everyone knows about preinstalled. Can't say it's a good thing.

Yeah, I hope ADB would work on such devices, but probably not root, many newer phones are locked down.
Windows does not cost 200$ preinstalled, there is about 20-40$ difference between a no-OS laptop and a Windows one. Still, I'll never pay 20$ to Microsoft for that subpar spyware they call an OS.

The apps are from govt approved list, they are from Yandex (Browser, Disk, Maps), Mail.ru Group (ICQ, VK.com, OK.ru), Sberbank (2GIS maps) and many more. It looks like the manufacturers choose the apps from the list themselves.

The most interesting question for me is how this will affect the sales of laptops with no OS (which are still popular here, piracy of Windows is still big). Me, I just use Linux.

@Bradley_JF @Decentralize_today
Yes, the headline is misleading.
Manufacturers are given a choice between preinstalling, or putting icons on a desktop to easily install, or opening up a dialog on first run.
Apple chose a dialog, Samsung preinstalled several apps already (with an update to already sold phones, and included Belorussia in this update), some of those apps reportedly can't be deleted. Several Chinese manufacturers made a statements that they won't make these apps mandatory.

Remember Firefox Send?
It was forked, and is now hosted by some awesome person.

I'm not actually sure it's not javascript running in your browser that actually syncs the emails. I just assumed that hosts does it, so maybe it's worth a try.

@resist1984 @kat
I'm not sure running imapsync.lamiral.info/X/ through Tor will cause Yandex to drop packets, as it would maybe get a request from the host in the web, not the client (your browser)?
