I also game a lot on PC, but at the same time I love tinkering with Linux, so I switched early 2018, several months after DXVK was first released.
Running a Windows game with a Linux Steam client looked so unreal back then.
Proton and DXVK made huge progress since then, I'm sure they'll satisfy your needs, unless you can't live without multiplayer games with anti-cheats, those do not work on Linux.
