Could it not be coincidence that ideological/political divisiveness and microtargeted advertising are synergistic and are created from the same source?

The simple equation to understand the most valuable commodity in the world:
Knowledge = Power
Data = Knowledge
Therefore
Data = Power

Digital health and physical health have many parallels, similarly digital security and physical security. Some people think they can pay a health and wellness coach to make them healthy. A coach can only provide guidance on diet and exercise. It is up to the client to form and practice healthy and safe habits which must be consistently monitored.

Yay Apple is going to protect our privacy! This is what many people badly want to believe who are totally trapped in their ecosystem. Some will fight hard not to see the truth as symbolized in this scene from They Live: invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=

After trashing my surveilled accounts, I wanted my old contacts on those platforms to still be able to find me and get back in touch.

I setup a personal web page with my real name and a little information to identify myself and a link to an @anonaddy.me email account. This was a bit of work to do and beyond the convenience of most people who might also want to cut their ties with those platforms.

Has anyone found a better way to publish a means for reconnecting?

M1 iPad's cool and all but it just furthers Apple's already unbreakable grasp on users, and puts them and their privacy even more at the mercy of Apple's lackluster user protections and iron fist.

Innerspace's promo video shows you how they track the movement of everybody in buildings using WIFI. Be sure your phone is not broadcasting WIFI, or keep it in a faraday bag which also makes a great conversation starter at dinner.😎 player.vimeo.com/video/2898842

The more someone knows about us, the more they can influence us. We can wield democratic power only if our privacy is protected.

The public leak of 500M Facebook user profiles feels like it was inspired by Westworld Season 3. Mine was included but I had totally poisoned my account with false data already. The leak benefited me but will enrage others. haveibeenpwned.com/

Championing privacy and tech freedom with friends and family has often been a thankless or worse experience for me. Being the bearer of bad news and inconvenient facts puts misplaced ire on me. Ignorance is bliss. I feel a responsibility to my friends and family and do not want to be alone in understanding. At the same time, I do not want to be hated. I really try to restrain and tone down the topic, but the ideas consume me. I guess many people here have a similar experience?

My response to friend who buys Facebook advertising:

So you support building a surveillance apparatus that spies on and manipulates your friends and family if it might help you sell a few more plus sized women's panties?

He hasn't talked to me for a little while.🤔

The jargon used by big data companies such as telemetry(surveillance data) and engagement(addiction) obscures reality. I heard Satya using a new one today referring to Xbox, Linkedin, Minecraft, & Github as 'properties'. We could better define 'properties' as 'fields' or 'plantations' where they harvest data to be refined.

Tell me what you think of this new product idea..
You upload all your contact details, business contacts, and work history. Your contacts upload their contact details and work history as well. They cannot see your contact information, and you cannot see theirs. You must only communicate through our platform now. We then mine all this data including your communications and use it to predict futures and sell it to recruiters, marketers, and employers. The new product will be called Lockedin.com ;)

One of the wonderful side affects of de-googling and privatizing my digital life is that robots no longer tell me what to read, watch, listen, and buy. Now I choose and seek out what I want. Liberation!

@joshbdoc @krock @flockingbird wow this is pretty interesting! Thanks for the recommendation; just followed them and reading their blog now. :) left LinkedIn last year but would still like to have some kind of professional network without everything being catalogued by search engines and big corps - looks like Flockingbird might be the answer!

Unused is not benign: it metastasizes into rage, grief, shame, & judgment.

Every being is creative, and we have the capacity, maybe even the responsibility, to infuse our creative energy into whatever we do. 🚀

Before giving online data, I ask myself:
1. What am I providing?
2. Who can see it?
3. What can they do with it?
When in doubt, don't let it out.

I am writing a report about the infosec risks with my companies' SAAS CRM provider moving its data center to Google Cloud. I am looking for good technical resources that can explain how the metadata could be used by Google to game us and other companies using this CRM solution. Please send me any relevant docs or your own ideas.
