To answer parents that want to prevent abuse of their children: don't give them a phone until you have fully educated them about the horrors of the modern internet and how to mitigate them. Otherwise as soon as they log onto zuckbook, Google.., the abuse begins.

What is the main reason big data billionaire tycoons are bugging out to their bunkers in New Zealand? https://apnews.com/article/technology-lifestyle-travel-new-zealand-immigration-b7184a3296dea7c8c276232d615da0ac
@thenewoil I know it doesn't work for every trip, especially Texas summers. At least with phones, we can use prepaid SIM's and FOSS OS. Cars require registration and insurance with no current FOSS options π¬
@thenewoil and we can be sure these will all be connected cars (Iphones on wheels) that will collect and send everything to the insurance companies and other agencies. Reminder to everyone that the bicycle is the most thermodynamically efficient transportation device ever created with the lowest carbon footprint and zero surveillance.
@chris I try to be hopeful and realistic. I agree we will be in the trenches a long time if not the rest of our lives resisting this. Thank you for your work at raising grassroots awareness which is where we need to start.
@chris I certainly hope we are in the golden age of #SurveillanceCapitalism. I mean that it has peaked, but I am not optimistic given the powerful machines now deployed to manufacture ignorance. Some privileged people are starting to wake up in the developed world, but they are a minority.
@vice Spot the robot dog Spot probably wouldn't bite, but it might weild more powerful weapons.
@hackernews This article could be titled: Top data tycoons bugging out to their bunkers in New Zealand. What do they know or fear?
@hackernews Homeless and others need to carry spray paint cans and resist the normalization of police robots before widespread deployment.
@tika Apple's admission that they are using advanced AI to surveil whatever they can is no surprise to many of us. It is extremely difficult for some to get out of this trap of an ecosystem. Apple knows they can get away with this without losing too many weakened captive users.
@hackernews Amazon would be happy if we never left our houses again.
@enigmatico Great picture of a Whatsapp message.

@aral Are your friends "In the tent" as they say or part of the long string of useful idiots working there brainwashed to believe they are improving the world? This is rhetorical coming from a former useful idiot.π
@hackernews
And I thought Facebook spyware was very advanced already. They incessantly seek ways to extract even more data through any means necessary.
**48 Advocacy Groups Call on the FTC to Ban Amazon Surveillance**
"The open letter uses Amazon as a case study to argue that corporate surveillance technologies cause immense harm and fall under the FTC's authority to ban."
I lived around the world helping some giants as a useful idiot. I am now more selective of where I spend my efforts. I am excited to grow the federation and help the kids around me learn digital safety.
I am in northern California on the water at the base of hills. I tend a garden, paddle the bay, swing rings, and lift logs and chains when I am not developing software and loving those near me.
