@Wetrix The easiest and best solution to improve your security with one of these is to use a hammer.
@tika I recall seeing some of the feeble attempts in these videos. It all seemed like a gimmick to convince people that you cannot evade the big 5, and you should just give up trying. They do not mention much FOSS alternatives or many of the techniques many of us are well aware of and have successfully used to rid them and live a free life afterwards. This is very sophisticated propaganda.
I spent too much time researching new electric cars. The details of the operating systems are not very available or revealing. I could not find any FOSS options.
The most thermodynamically efficient transportation device ever created is carbon neutral, inexpensive, evades ALPR’s(Automatic License Plate Readers), has no location tracking, no data collection, keeps me in great health, and puts a smile on my face. I will stick with this option until something better is available.
@hackernews
Seemingly good news but last paragraph hints at true goal of apple and Google: squeeze out Facebook and gain more data and share of ad spend.
Is it GACC or is it FOSS?
Explaining what something is not rather than what it is can better convey understanding. I think I made up GACC(Government, AI, Corporate Controlled). I have found many normal people struggle to understand FOSS. So I ask this question and explain when they talk about an app or service.
@hackernews Imagine what Amazon can do with MGM by using their vast and in-depth personal profile databases and deep fake technology like this.
Amazon’s purchase of MGM makes sense. Their AI will eventually be able to automatically generate movies based on the in-depth data profiles of their users that will easily convince them of what to buy and think. I will now avoid MGM along with the Washington Post. James Bond is total BS anyway. Spies just sit in front of computers analyzing all the data that people shed, not flashing around casinos in fancy cars.
Are you a spy?
I ask my friends to use secure communication and not take pictures of me. Sometimes they ask me, “Are you a spy?” I explain that every time they take a picture and upload it to some GACC (Government, AI, Corporate Controlled) media, they are sending a record of each person tagged with time and location to multiple databases used by corporate and government spies to track us and our associations. Who is the spy?
Right to repair with privacy focus laptop. 👍
"Built-in hardware privacy switches give you complete control over access to the camera and microphones. Our embedded controller firmware is fully open source, and we don’t preload any extra software. You can even install a privacy focused OS on a Storage Expansion Card and take it with you."

As summer festival and party scene begins, I try to minimize my digital footprints and the commodification of the self. I ask everybody not to take any pictures or videos of me because they almost always end up on some cloud drive or Zuckbook tagged with associates, time, and location. If people ask my why they cannot take my photo, it leads to great awareness raising conversations.
@vice Keep those electronic devices in a faraday bag/sleeve and encrypt the drives. The surveillance and random device scans in airports is at a new level.
@aljazeera_english The megatech companies seem to classify raw and refined data product sales as advertising or other on their income statements. It would be revealing if companies would break out data sales separately from ad sales, but they want to obscure the size of such business.
@tek @pluralistic I got my information from https://www.remind.com/privacy-policy where under the mobile application it leaves plenty of room to allow tracking of location. You may be aware that there are many ways to track location other than the GPS location services option in app. My toot will overflow if I try to explain them all, but two are IP address and WIFI scanning using SSID's using Google's map of all SSID locations. I generally interpret 'may' in privacy policy as 'do', but I am skeptical.
@thenewoil This has happened to me multiple times around the world. Be sure your devices are shut down with full disk encryption, and use hidden volumes when traveling.
@tek @pluralistic The kids in my house are under enormous surveillance with apps their schools use. I recently looked at one they are told to install https://www.remind.com/ which tracks their location and collects just about all data they can and shares it with administrators (teachers, coaches, principals). Save the children!
@eff This has happened to me a couple times in foreign airports. If we win this in the US, it is still a dangerous world out there. I now use full disk encryption and shadow volumes. I thank Linux and Veracrypt.
@thedeltaflyer I do a little digging, chopping, planting, and tending every day as a bit of meditation. It keeps me happy on this big plot of land.
The Matrix (The Google) could be re-made to show all the captive people of the AI stuck in those towers of pods poking and swiping away on their phones to keep producing data for the AI. The original movie had people producing energy for the AI, but what it really needs is a constant flow of data. Poison or impede it, and it starves.
@joshbdoc Sophisticated social engineering attacks will always be a problem. I constantly encounter people who did not even get the kindergarten level of education. Tech-ed should be required in schools along with Sex-ed.
I lived around the world helping some giants as a useful idiot. I am now more selective of where I spend my efforts. I am excited to grow the federation and help the kids around me learn digital safety.
I am in northern California on the water at the base of hills. I tend a garden, paddle the bay, swing rings, and lift logs and chains when I am not developing software and loving those near me.
