@joshbdoc I agree that most 'smart' devices are dumb to use. I am speaking more about those devices such as computers and phones which we need to use these days. I am concerned about the kids and grandmas.. who do not understand safety basics and are putting themselves and those around them at risk. I am no proponent of gun ownership, but I think people need similar safety courses before getting online.

If someone will not take the time to learn gun safety, they should not own one. They put themselves and those around them at risk. I feel the same way about smart phones and other devices.

@lrvick This is perhaps China's greatest hack next to Tiktok. China successfully hacked the US biggest brand value. Tiktok was aimed at undermining Facebook by using US technology against it. Well played

@thenewoil Hopefully it is an independent agency like Exodus in Aurora store that verifies and not a company like Apple that exempts its own or favored apps from scrutiny.

A friend of mine told me he tried Mastodon, but it never really caught him. I explained why that is the beauty of the platform. You choose what/who you want to follow or engage without corporations, governments, or AI telling you what to do or keep you on. Then he realized why he should be here.

@resist1984 Pressure should be applied on all fronts, but I have no great recommendation. My point is that the US and a very large number of its tech and A&D companies are deeply invested there. These companies and the US gov could pressure Israel but are unlikely or unable to abandon Israel.

@resist1984 Unfortunately the list of companies deeply embedded in Israel is very long. They include Google, Intel, Microsoft, AT&T, and a slew of others. You basically need to throw out your cell phone and computer which is not really an option for companies or individuals. Other strategies need to be employed.

@thenewoil If Apple is willing to bend this much to a government to preserve a relatively small revenue market, imagine what they would do to appease the governments and intelligence agencies of their largest markets.

@thenewoil Looking forward to it. You know that Twitch is Amazon right?

@thenewoil Phone security aside, we should try to buy the transit cards with prepaid debit cards available in stores with cash payment. I plan to give my existing card tied to my name to someone else. I hope this works for me, but I feel sorry for the average commuter.

When I remove my phone from its faraday sleeve, I sometimes feel like Bilbo Baggins putting on the ring. The eye of Sauron now sees me.

I would rather wear a criminal court mandated ankle bracelet than a Fitbit. Only the government authorities are tracking me with the ankle bracelet. Fitbit shares data with at least 76 agencies who in turn resell it to who knows where.

@Wetrix I admittedly have also been a useful idiot in the past.

@thedeltaflyer Or you could just say, "Can I take a video of you taking a shit with the wiping and all?" 🀣 There are no shortage of obvious arguments to this stupid statement, but they are better than me just calling people naive.

I was recently speaking with a friend whose company buys data from Google for targeted marketing. He complained about the work they had to do to 'match up' the anonymized data to real people. I explained how I degoogled which was a new concept to him. He then said the famous words, "I have nothing to hide." It baffles me how he de-anonymizes personal data and doesn't understand the problem. It seems to be some kind of cognitive dissonance for marketing people?
