@InternetRooky Many people in this community for example work both sides of the fence. We work for tech giants by day and FOSS by night. We have a lot to say but do not want to get blacklisted.
@InternetRooky I have no doubt it is possible. I think the technique might create additional interest in the shows as it will have that forbidden allure ;) It could certainly open up discussions by creating that freedom gained from anonymity.
@InternetRooky Agreed. Removing the voice of the speaker (changing from a man to woman for example) let's us focus more on the message than how flowery the voice may be. I think many of us would have no problem with this. I use some pretty bad TTS for my ebooks since Google TTS is off limits on my Graphene. So I am used to it. I do not know what tools are available in this area though.
@InternetRooky That sounds intriguing, but we would need to also use voice masking technology to really be anonymous. I have never heard a podcast doing that.
@BlackFish
Got it now. :)
@BlackFish ? I love my Graphene but wish it was available on other devices. What is iPatch?
@vol I am happy they are dedicating some of their multi-billion $ PR and marketing spend here. Their record and privacy policy reveal the truth. It seems like a late attempt to retain customers who are fleeing to private products. As captive as a customer may be to the Apple ecosystem, a fox will chew off his own foot to escape a trap.
"But at Apple we believe you should have a choice." π€£
Digital health and physical health have many parallels, similarly digital security and physical security. Some people think they can pay a health and wellness coach to make them healthy. A coach can only provide guidance on diet and exercise. It is up to the client to form and practice healthy and safe habits which must be consistently monitored.
Yay Apple is going to protect our privacy! This is what many people badly want to believe who are totally trapped in their ecosystem. Some will fight hard not to see the truth as symbolized in this scene from They Live: https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=dN8Z7y_QcwE
@TheDoctor Right but if I deleted my FB account and the only way we had of communicating with each other was FB, I think you see the problem. To make matters worse, I have changed my phone number and email address which makes it harder for people to find me.
After trashing my surveilled accounts, I wanted my old contacts on those platforms to still be able to find me and get back in touch.
I setup a personal web page with my real name and a little information to identify myself and a link to an @anonaddy.me email account. This was a bit of work to do and beyond the convenience of most people who might also want to cut their ties with those platforms.
Has anyone found a better way to publish a means for reconnecting?
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat I think of them more as slaves rather than users. I am impressed with how Apple has done it. Obscure all complexity and eliminate options under UX. Spend billions on marketing and PR for unimportant features and lies. It is for people who do not want to be bothered to understand the technology and power.
Master technology or be mastered by it.
@brombek ISP's and DNS providers have always been tracking people's visits to the best of my knowledge. FLOC on Chrome is the new one. Perhaps some of our respectful sites should provide that simple explanation in privacy policy to not give people a false sense of security. "We do not track or collect anything, but your ISP, DNS provider, and browser may be tracking your activity".
@aspie4K @be I only mention Parler as an example of what AWS can and has done. It was backed by the billionaire Mercer family, and they were not able to move to new servers very easily. Iran and China have blocked connections to Signal. I certainly expect that Signal has contingency plans in case things go bad with their host, and all of us should too.
@be @aspie4K @pluralistic
Amazon has a single switch to shut it down as they did with Parler. I encourage people to have contingencies such as XMPP and Matrix accounts already setup and known to their contacts.
@ThreeBadgersInATrenchcoat @MrRawes Thank you for educating me. The challenge is sometimes formats supported by different converters and players. I recently stripped the DRM off of a bunch of Audible books and did not find great converters on Linux.
@MrRawes
Right but it is very appropriate for audio books. A 500 page book lossless would be a beast.
I use some of the worst TTS engines for my epubs because google is off limits.
I lived around the world helping some giants as a useful idiot. I am now more selective of where I spend my efforts. I am excited to grow the federation and help the kids around me learn digital safety.
I am in northern California on the water at the base of hills. I tend a garden, paddle the bay, swing rings, and lift logs and chains when I am not developing software and loving those near me.
