"Police are warning students and universities not to access Sci-Hub, an "illegal website" that allows users to download scientific research papers normally locked behind expensive subscriptions."

Very bad indeed. That name again: Sci-Hub. Remember it so you can avoid it. Ahem.

@kravietz
They say it works only after red pill unlock, so it's interesting but not a security issue.

@_markel___@twitter.com has just published results of his research with Maxim Goryachy and Dmitry Sklyarov where they found "found two undocumented x86 instructions in Intel CPUs which completely control microarchitectural state". Which basically means they can write anything to the CPU, modify microcode etc 🤷

It's illegal to enter buildings in the zone as most of them are completely unstable, and due to a new zone administration there's typically no bribing your way out of a situation. Sometimes in the most unsuspecting places you may find street art left behind by a Stalker who risked arrest for something many will never see. Somewhat of a real life Easter egg, or a subtle nod to defiance: "You're not suppose to be here."

Location: Chernobyl Exclusion-zone, Ukraine. 2019.

One more fossil gas power plant in Bavaria 🇩🇪 to compensate for lack of power supplies caused by "nuclear exit"

CO2 emissions of nuclear: 12 gCO2eq/kWh
CO2 emissions of fossil gas: 490 gCO2eq/kWh

🤷

@cjd @kravietz I'm not convinced that it is bad to invest in nuclear power research. We're getting to the point now where thorium-based liquid salt reactors will be commercially available in 5-10 years. Many new thorium-based MSR designs would obviate concerns about traditional uranium-based nuclear power, in particular the risk of explosion from a meltdown would be nearly nil since they can be operated at 1 atmosphere of pressure, and their fuel would mostly be stuff that is considered a hazardus byproduct of rare-earth mining (which, coincidentally, is necessary to construct high-efficiency rechargable batteries)

CoLP with an unpaid advertising feature?

QT fanf: The police say Sci-Hub enables free access to over 70 million published scientific papers of all disciplines. It is estimated to include 80%+ of the world’s scientific papers, a volume of data roughly two and a half times the size of Wikipedia. cityoflondon.police.uk/news/ci

Sounds a bit like running a Tor exit node, but for people who are likely less tech savvy, and probably won’t have segmented their network and offer this with a different IP.

"We are the only highly industrialised country, which at the same time wants to get rid of nuclear energy and coal. Those who use a huge amount of nuclear energy, such as Macron, have an easier task to replace fossil fuels"

Did you possibly ask yourself, why "at the same time"? 🤯

@Mayana Yeah.. a sea monster :) Really awesome shanty. It is stuck in my ear ever since finding it after playing Nantucket video game in 2018 and discovering how sea shanties go surprisingly well together with writing code at work :).
