Poland’s Synthos Green Energy has announced completion of a deployment feasibility study for the implementation of a fleet of GE Hitachi Energy BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Poland.

The Greens are now all for fossil gas, presenting it as some kind of "transition fuel" to compensate for solar and wind variability. In reality, with *some* increase in variable renewables always comes a *huge* increase in fossil gas. Which, as its name suggests, is a fossil fuel...

@clacke @sir @brandon the law doesn't say you have to use a banner. It's a stupid misinterpretation of the law.

There is literally no nothing that talks about cookies. What they talk about is use of personally identifiable information (tracking cookies is one of those things).

The banner itself also is a not enough to get you out of abusing personally identifiable information. The site also should not track you by default (the banner should make it as easy to opt out as it is to opt in).

Based on their post, it seems as though Github is in compliance. Their previous banner was either unnecessary or not enough, depending on what their previous behaviour was.

Now all the of t his assumes the law is actually being enforced, which we haven't seen much of yet. There are some cases slowly making their way through the system, but I don't think expect to see anything in a while. The fact that nothing has happened yet is why people think that the cookie banner is enough to keep the theory illegal activities legit.

It seems like /e/ now supports the COVID-19 tracing apps using Exposure Notification API in a quite user- and privacy-friendly way - I've just tested it and it works perfectly

Fancy, The german "Tagesschau" mentioned @fdroidorg as source for the Google independent version of the Corona Warn App (called "Corona Contact Tracing Germany") on Android:

Slowly but surely, things are going into the right direction. F-Droid is hopefully in the future more mainstream!

"we find cookie banners quite irritating, so we decided to look for a solution. After a brief search, we found one: just don’t use any non-essential cookies. Pretty simple, really."

My colleague from Russia just was sent this story about UK secretary for education allegedly claiming that "UK elite schools are switching to Soviet education system"...

It takes around 5 minutes to find out:

1) it's from 2018
2) it was published by Pravda-TV and then reposted in Georgian media
3) there's no such BBC interview
4) which is not surprising as the original source of the story is a satirical Russian site Panorama, which explicitly states it's fake

Today 🇵🇱 Green Party presented their renewable + fossil gas policy. Which has obviously drawn a lot of bitter comments, because logically you can't speak about decarbonisation and propose more fossil fuels. So they just... removed fossil gas from the statement, as if it's going to disappear magically from the energy mix they're proposing 😂

New version 0.9 of #ggrepel released. I'm impressed by how much this package can do for neat labelling of #RStats plots: ggrepel.slowkow.com/articles/e

Прошло ровно два дня, что мы имеем:

— больше 10 миллионов просмотров у расследования;
— никакой внятной реакции со стороны Кремля, только стыдный комментарий Лаврова: «все эти новости забавно читать».

Такая вот полная беспомощность перед фактами.

Dear #Fediverse, anyone doing #GIS here?

I have a .GeoTIFF file with an elevation map of a whole (non-Earth) celestial body, with a simple CRS embedded. I want to display it on a 3D globe - either flat, or as heightmap.

What's the best way to do it? QGIS is failing me here (and I've managed to accidentally uninstall it trying to get it to work...). And why it's so hard to find information on how to visualize GIS data on a 3D globe?
