"We find that the lost nuclear electricity production due to the phase-out was replaced primarily by coal-fired production and net electricity imports. The social cost of this shift from #nuclear to coal is approximately 12 billion dollars per year. Over 70% of this cost comes from the increased mortality risk associated with exposure to the local air pollution emitted when burning fossil fuels." https://www.nber.org/papers/w26598.pdf

This sort of thing is precisely why decentralized platforms, such as Mastodon, are so important. An ecosystem of federated services is much more resilient to government manipulation than a single commercial company.

Ok, but you really should read up on the origin of the name "penguin diagram": Due to a drunk bet, Ellis had to put the word "penguin" into his next paper. He had no idea how to manage that, until he smoked some weed and discovered that his diagram was vaguely penguin shaped. 😂🤣🐧

Capitalism is quietly erasing the idea of private property. All products are effectively becoming rentals, and the companies can revoke your right to use them whenever they feel like it. It's becoming increasingly difficult to actually own anything. Media is streamed, and devices are locked from the users.
It's hilarious how all the things people were afraid of happening under communism are actually happening under capitalism.
