Client-side scanning is a new proposal of US law enforcement to combat child porn by hashing every image sent by IM clients against a database of known CP hashes. EFF discusses how this can be abused.

"Researchers from Russian corporation Neurobotics and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology have found a way to visualize a person's brain activity as actual images mimicking what they observe in real time (...)
The proposed neurofeedback model was implemented on Python (with deep learning models implemented using pyTorch library) and run on a machine with an Intel i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 1050Ti GPU and 8 Gb RAM."

"Fear of arbitrary authorities and lawlessness placed third in the pollster’s hierarchy of fears for the second year in a row in 2019. The return of mass repressions and a tighter political regime shared the sixth spot among Russians’ biggest fears, while fear of death ranked 10th." https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2019/10/30/russians-fear-arbitrary-authorities-more-than-death-poll-says-a67962
@dump_stack In LTS you don't usually get much new features, but you still get plenty of bugfixes. Memory leaks or outdated GeoIP databases are *not* security fixes but do screw up systems significantly (just from my own recent experience).

"Reymont did not love #capitalism. However, while Poland’s communist regime touted The Promised Land, it simultaneously banned Reymont’s last novel: the anti-Bolshevik Bunt (“The Revolt”), serialised in Tygodnik Ilustrowany in 1922 and published in novel form two years later. The novel was not a major success in Poland, in part because Warsaw’s liberal literary critics, themselves often flirting with #marxism, considered his dystopian work to be reactionary."
