If you're looking for a messy and nightmarish subject to learn, go for the WiFi πΆ standards π
I've just configured hostapd and wpa_supplicant on Linux and the number of options and variants there goes in hundreds - it's *way* more complicated than the usual "WEP/WPA/WPA2" as I used to see it.
Because on top of the software layer, there's also hardware - so you can have hostapd and wpa_supplicant that happily support WPA-PSK-SHA256 ("WPA2") but one of the wireless cards won't and no play...

@peron It's still being used for uploading stuff to devices over serial links, for example in U-Boot

TIL: Climate change has resulted in the earth spinning faster, cancelling out leap seconds.
βAs I previously said, the reason it will affect live GPS is due to, and I hate to say it, global warming causing the earth to speed up, unexpectedly.β

Ha, I forgot ConstanΘa is on sea, so basically it has one side completely open to ventilation, which is a life saver.

Many factors impact pollution in the town - for example, if it's in a valley it will have worse ventilation, and thus worse pollution that similar town on plains. My home town of KrakΓ³w is a very good example of such unfortunate location. Also, this might be just the location of the air quality sensor - if it's in town outskirts, it will certainly show better air than in the center.
PRECIS, the next step in Unicode validation

I have a LoRa gateway on my balcony, and since it's connected to LoRa WAN it actually serves as a public gateway for everyone's devices.
I myself experimented primarily with LoRa based GPS-trackers - for a very trivial reason, I have a friend in Russia who is a farmer and his cows π are repeatedly got lost in mountains so I developed it a way to track them π
After migrating all services previously hosted by a rather noisy HP Microserver, my rack cabinet looks miserably empty.
From the left:
* WiFi access point antenna for outdoors LoRa gateway
* Nezha RiscV (doing nothing yet)
* Raspberry Pi 4, hosting Unifi server and access point for LoRa
* NanoPi R2S doing PPPoE, DNS and firewall
WiFi happily worked on Raspberry's built-in WiFi interface... until I placed it inside cabinet, which is why I recycled the old external WiFi device for the AP.

Ionising smoke detectors use americum, which has half-life of ~400 years - in any case it seems like they were gradually replaced by optical detectors - basically LED and sensors in a dark chamber
Both electrochemical and semiconductor CO detectors seem to have lifetime of 5-10 years, which is understandable granted the chemical deterioration of sensing elements:

You can compare air quality in towns between Romania and Austria here

In summer, outside of heating season, which is still plagued by low emissions from coal in Eastern Europe, transport is the largest contributor to air pollution.
Indigenous Australian claiming posession of England
TIL that on January 26 1988*, an indigenous Australian, Burnum Burnum, planted the indigenous Australian flag
on the beaches under the white cliffs of Dover, claiming possession of England on behalf of Indigenous Australians.
He made what is known as the Burnum Burnum Declaration, which included:
*In claiming this colonial outpost, we wish no harm to you natives, but assure you that we are here to bring you good manners, refinement and an opportunity to make a Koopartoo β βa fresh start.β
*Henceforth, an Aboriginal face shall appear on your coins and stamps to signify our sovereignty over this domain.
*Based on our 50,000 year heritage, we acknowledge the need to preserve the Caucasian race as of interest to antiquity, although we may be inclined to conduct experiments by measuring the size of your skulls for levels of intelligence. We pledge not to sterilize your women, not to separate your children from their families.

As we're complaining about people switching cars often, but I see no mention of improvements in fuel efficiency and, most importantly, reduced pollution, such as the EURO standard - the differences in allowed emissions of carbon oxide, particulate matter and other pollutants are quite significant, especially for heavy vehicles - e.g. Euro 6 has 40x lower allowed PM emissions than Euro 1 for HGV.

My point was that Soviet passenger cars were constructed using the same design principles as trucks, and generally any ideas of upgrading them were quite unrealistic. Certainly not saying we should return to these design principles.

Buying Uaz had two important consequences for me when I was 17 - first, I had to learn Russian to be able to read the service manual; second, I had to learn practical mechanical skills, for example how to unblock a gearbox that locked on 3rd gear on a roadside parking during a 700 km route to the seaside. And the concept of "warranty" was obviously non-existent back then...
