Soviet cars didn't need crumple zones because they were built on a frame, and chassis was like 2 mm steel. Among western cars only true 4x4 (not SUV) and lorries would have equally heavy construction, which was a benefit when you crash into something but also results in like 15-20 liters per 100 km gasoline consumption.

I thought there was a regulation about security testing of such devices, but maybe I remember incorrectly or it was not UK 🤔 In any case, idiots designing this actually put people at risk.
Vulns found in the "Wallbox" home EV charger, that could compromise home wifi or even allow hackers to turn on all the chargers in a street at once - which can open the feeder pillar fuse at the substation - a guaranteed off supply for many houses for an hour or more (as long as it takes for the DNO (distribution network operator) engineers to replace the fuse -and it could be opened multiple times causing further power cuts if the hackers make repeated strikes...

You Really Shouldn't Roll Your Own Crypto: An Empirical Study of Vulnerabilities in Cryptographic Libraries
"Among our most interesting findings is that only 27.2% of vulnerabilities in cryptographic libraries are cryptographic issues while 37.2% of vulnerabilities are memory safety issues, indicating that systems-level bugs are a greater security concern than the actual cryptographic procedures."

Yes, in case if GR it's 1:1. On the other hand Bt brinjal (eggplant) has 80% larger yield due to lack of pest losses, so to get the same volume of final veg you need proportionally *less* arable land.
Very much the opposite - Bt cotton prevents *millions* of pesticide poisoning cases each year in India alone, and Bt maize led to 2/3 reduction in cancer rates from mycotoxins. Many other heal benefits of GM plans are documented:
@gritnot By the way, on the food safety argument, exactly the opposite was observed - widespread adoption of Bt cotton and Bt maize resulted in *millions* less cases of pesticide poisoning and less cancer rates due to less mycotoxins.
@th I guess a few grams of non-transparent epoxy resin poured on and around the TPM chip would at least make wire-tapping harder.
My thoughts on how to configure your systems to protect against the Dolos Group's excellent demonstration of sniffing TPM protected disk encryption keys: https://trmm.net/tpm-sniffing/
@gritnot Their arguments against GMO changed over time, but in case of Golden Rice they argued the following:
* GR will "open doors" to more GMOs - a classic slippery slope fallacy
* GR could "contaminate" wild rice - so what?
* "industry is selling GR" - which is outright lie because GR specifically is non-commercial and royalty-free
* GR is "drawing funding and attention away from other projects" - while all other solutions to VAD failed
