@kat Precisely! 👍 by the way, I was thinking about Bastiat too for a moment but his "Candlemakers petition" came to my mind and then I decided it's not that well of an analogy 😂

Especially telling is the history of German communists and Jews who fleed Germany in 30's, then were sent back to Germany by the Soviets in 1941 - most of them were then killed or placed in concentration camps.

One of few survivors was Margarete Buber-Neumann who first survived GULag in Kazakhstan and then Ravensbrück in Germany (!)

> no agression packt

A non-aggression pact implies kind of neutral stance, but it was much broader:

* massive commercial supplies from USSR to Germany in bypass of international sanctions, effectively enabling German conquer of Europe
* joint military parades (Brest), frequent visits of Nazi officials in Moscow (including parades)
* cooperation of NKVD and Gestapo in suppression of resistance, exchange of prisoners (e.g. Jews who escaped to USSR in 30's)

@kat

It's quite obvious that this is public relations in promotion of commuting, and there are many stakeholders interested in it. Firstly, there's plenty of businesses that depend on commuters, from railways, tube, buses, parkings to cafes and - most importantly - the office space owners. Plenty of wealthy individuals and companies - but also investment funds and pension funds - have invested into the office space, and the pandemics has a potential to burst the bubble.

> here in germany we get a lot of historic education

You need to seriously rethink the education programme if you didn't realize USSR and Germany were allies from 1939 till 1941. 🤔

@saxnot @silverspookgames

> But it was russia which the usual 1940 german was fearing

Quite the opposite. In 1940 Soviet Union (not "Russia") was still an ally of Third Reich and supplying Germany with massive amounts of strategic materials in bypass of international sanctions.

Once again, Soviet Union and Germany were cooperating from 1939 till June 1941 when Hitler attacked USSR. But in May 1941 Nazi generals were still guests on parades in Moscow (!)

@silverspookgames

In 1940 alone Soviet Union was supplying thousands of tons of strategic materials to the German military industry *bypassing* the economic blockade of Third Reich imposed by other countries.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German%E

The 1 May 1941 parade in Moscow actually had Nazi generals visiting as guests of honor youtube.com/watch?v=JZbN_ujVWK

@silverspookgames

National socialist Third Reich (Italy was fascist) was conquered by Allies, not any single country and the victory wouldn't be possible without the effort of all these countries.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allies_o

Not disputing the enormous sacrifice by Soviet people, it should be remembered that USSR was *not* among Allies in 1939 when the world started.

Quite the opposite - it joined Third Reich in invasion on Eastern Europe in 1939 and supported it until 1941.

Wątpię, to by wywróciło do góry nogami wszystkie umowy międzynarodowe, które Polska ratyfikowała.

My friend took archeologists to a number of caves in Kabardino-Balkaria (Caucasus) I suggested as potential habitats for palaeolithical humans. They just returned from the expedition, and he says "results are so-so... we just found some Neanderthal flint knifes and Cromagnon remains here and there". Are these really that abundant elsewhere, as they sounded almost disappointed 😂 Caucasus archaeology is a bit spoiled in this aspect, as you can dig a shovel anywhere and find some artifacts...
