I just realised that implicitly I built a FLOC tester :D

Want to check if your browser implements FLOC? Just go to shivering-isles.com and if a banner shows up warning you about FLOC, your browser is affected. Amazing!

While a lot of people decided to set a header to opt-out from FLOC tracking for their users, I decided to embrace it and let people make up their own mind.

For those interested in the banner, here are the implementation details:

git.shivering-isles.com/shiver

It's kept simple and efficient. It'll only show up, when your browser implements the API. Enjoy!

A website in Russia gathering people's declarations to attend protests in support of Navalny suffered a data breach, and whoever did that, they started sending threats to the people who signed up.

Unfortunately, it's yet another failure of "data hoarding marketing" attitude over privacy-focus, which should be priority *especially* when people who sign-up can be subject to state repressions.

@Hyolobrika

Quite the opposite, I read a lot in Russian.

I however don't find it very convincing when someone posing to be a "Polish patriot" writes in broken Polish with grammatical mistakes suggesting it's a Russian paid troll pretending to be a Pole.

@kawaiipunk @davidoclubb

what really pisses me off is many 30/40 something Brexit voters had fun in their own youth travelling to Ibiza or teknivals (raves held in European countries) making use of free movement - and cops in the countries where the events happened turning a blind eye to rampant drug use, dealing and drug driving from the UK folk (many of whom were only doing it because UK had clamped down on these things), and yet they voted against positive bits of European integration..

@kawaiipunk @piggo @davidoclubb

exactly - they won't have to "abandon" their second homes, no more than people from Russia or China or Singapore would.

However they will have to comply more with immigration and tax rules and a lot of Brit expats set up home in a foreign country to try and avoid these (and were very often also trying to use the "common EU citizen" status whilst still being a "foreigner" (but a rich one) as a get out to avoid complying with various domestic regulations))

Note sure if the latter is a good approach as E2EE is notoriously difficult to implement and comes with a massive pain-in-the-ass requirements such as key verification. I would let Mastodon do one thing - ActivityPub - well and leave E2EE to projects that specialise in direct secure comms.

@feditips
Direct/private messages are NOT end to end encrypted on #mastodon, don't use it for anything sensitive - microblog.shivering-isles.com/

You'll have to manually encrypt messages using pgp or something if you want #privacy on DMs. If you're concerned about this, just try to let the #devs know. An ideal solution would be to implement e2ee on the #activitypub protocol itself, so that all #fediverse platforms and future platforms get it. This way, even cross-platform DMs would be encrypted.

I took a closer look at Google’s FLoC initiative and how you can fight back and opt-out as a web user and a web developer

@Hyolobrika

Far-right in Poland is truly dumb - they declare themselves anti-communist, and at the same time they happily accept Kremlin narratives about how "communist Poland flourished and its collapse was a CIA conspiracy", only because these claims appear in their favourite far-right portals written by people in St Peterburg. So yes, they do indeed have serious problems with critical thinking.

"Davani confirmed on Monday that the attack last July [in Natanz] was also carried out with explosives that were smuggled into a centrifuge assembly facility at the site, with the explosives embedded in a heavy table that was brought into the facility. (...) The Iranian official stressed that such an operation takes years, saying "the design of the enemy was very beautiful."

I think the difference is larger but still recognizable in English:

Krem vs Krym 🇵🇱
Cream vs Crimea 🇬🇧

Classic Soviet jokes (not about Gagarin):

- On average, we live pretty well: worse than last year, but definitely better than next year.

- Comrade, do you know what is the stage between socialism and communism ?
- Alcoholism

Classic Soviet jokes about Gagarin:

- Gagarin trained for several years and risked his life to spend two hours outside of the Soviet Union

- Why does our government choose total idiots for cosmonauts? Look at Titov: man goes around the world 17 times and then comes back to Soviet Union!

- Dad, dad! Soviets flew to space!
- Yay, all of them?

Z @adalowicz braliśmy udział w dyskusji "Jak odpuściliśmy fejsa i zaczęliśmy robić coś z sensem". Wyszło nie do końca tak jak miało, ale jestem ciekaw waszej opinii; co poprawić, jak jaśniej wyjaśnić, co zupełnie nie trafia?
