What I see is a guy disputing the very basic concepts of astronomy, in a very literal sense, in response to someone's criticism of his particular statements from previous lectures. And the fact that he's calling them names ("pinheads who attack me") doesn't make his argument any more philosophical.

But this guy is just resorting to a particular reductionism (deism) to make uncertainty of the world easier to him. As a personal choice this is perfectly fine. What is unfortunate is that he is presenting his reductionism from a position of authority.

Did you perceive this picture as "badgering"?
I understood it as a science-based ranking of modifiable risks to our health, and posted as such.
I mean, we live in a world of fucked up risk perception - people are scared of things like terrorism, nuclear power and GMO, which are millions times less likely to harm them than car accident (non-modifiable) or any of those on the picture.

I can only but agree in the general sense, but what is the conclusion for an individual? Do nothing and just wait for systemic stress factors to be eliminated?

Пара слов про вчерашнее падение государственных и некоторых других сайтов.
Вы, наверное, уже видели сообщения из анонимных источников о том, что BGP-анонс со специально сформированным payload якобы уронил маршрутизаторы Juniper в Ростелекоме (и, наверное, даже посмеялись над этой новостью, ибо Juniper с версией 16.7 существовать не может по определению).
Мы тут смеяться не стали, а пошли выяснять, какие есть возможности.
Вот он (https://kb.juniper.net/JSA11024) — интересующий нас security bulletin (вот CVE (https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-20..)): Ошибка при обработке входящих пакетов BGP в демоне Juniper Networks RPD (routing protocols process) позволяет злоумышленнику аварийно завершить работу RPD, тем самым вызывая отказ в обслуживании.
Среди версий JunOS существует версия 16.1R7, которая действительно уязвима к этому CVE. End of support этой версии наступал (https://support.juniper.net/support/eol/software/junos) в январе 2020, но для R7 был продлён (https://support.juniper.net/support/eol/software/juno..) до января 2021. То есть, если всё описанное правда, то к инженерам Ростелекома будут большие вопросы о том, что это оборудование делает в продакшене. Но не гигантские, потому что всего три месяца неактуальная версия, чего вы хотите.
Остаётся вопрос: была ли это та самая кибератака, обещанная анонимным американским источником. И если да, то почему о ней знают не только Путин и окружение, как обещалось, но и вся страна?

@mkpankov а теперь посчитай число фрагов на киловатт/час. На сколько я понимаю АЭСки встасывают по этому параметру даже ветрякам и солнцу (там случается некоторое количество несчастных случаев при строительстве и обслуживании, а строительства и обслуживания на киловатт/час там нужно дофига). Ну а ископаемое топливо уделывает вообще всех.
Ну и самая писечка: солнца, ветра и прочего «тру зелёной энергетики» не хватит для покрытия наших потребностей в энергии. Это в любом случае ветряк плюс что-то ещё. И вариантов этого чего-то ещё не так чтобы много: АЭС и различные варианты ископаемого топлива.
Главный риск атомной энергетики состоит в том что от неё можно отказаться, что заставит тебя жечь углеводороды, что убьёт кучу народу (не эффектно, но эффективно)

They say nothing ever disappears off the Internet, but this is not true. One thing that has completely and mysteriously disappeared was absolutely awesome "Sobaka" magazine published between 1998-2006. All of 17 issues but one (all PDFs!) are gone 😫
