Kind of obvious from the very beginning but nice to see that documented :)

NextCloud has a pretty good photo gallery, map based on EXIF GPS tags, face recognition and OCR apps.

Mail from Twitch:

"Until May of this year, streamers received fewer than 50 music-related DMCA notifications each year. Beginning in May, however, major record labels started sending thousands of DMCA notifications each week."

"This means two things:

1) if you play recorded music on your stream, you need to stop doing that.

2) if you haven’t already, you should review your historical VODs and Clips that may have music in them and delete any archives that might."

Yesterday I setup backup on my #LineageOS phone, which worked quite well. Instead of requiring root and what not, I simply use the built-in Android Backup capabilities with #SeedVault, to backup my data to #Nextcloud, using the default @nextcloud app. Very straight forward.

With a short "Today I learned"-article I hope I can share some useful knowledge.

PS: SeedVault is part of the default LineageOS 17.1 setup these days.

Random facts: Vesna Vulović was a Serbian flight attendant who holds the Guinness world record for surviving the highest fall without a parachute: 10,160 m (33,330 ft; 6.31 mi). She was the sole survivor after a briefcase bomb exploded in the baggage compartment of JAT Flight 367 on 26 January 1972, causing it to crash near Srbská Kamenice, Czechoslovakia.

There's a number of fascinating medical details in the article that might have contributed to her survival.

@Wetrix Seems like Mastodon generally attracts this kind of people! 👍

@Wetrix So while Putin would do a great favour to the vaccine company by just keeping his mouth shut, Russian scientists are generally very active in the global scientific community on par with their colleagues from other countries. They're taking part in large international research such as ITER or CERN and nobody is making fuss about it - thankfully Putin prefers to boast already sanctioned companies like Almaz Antey thus keeping scientists safe from his anti-Midas touch 😀

@Wetrix Depending on what you define as "Russia".

Pfizer is an US company so you could just as well say "how can you trust Trump's US about a vaccine".

The difference of course is that even Trump never really resorted to micro-management of private US companies for political gain while Putin is doing that routinely.

The latter of course lead to total lack of trust in Russian companies as reliable partners, ready to fulfill their business commitments.

Sorry, you can't be a "we turn you into radioactive ash" macho *and* try to sell stuff to the world at the same time...

I personally do believe Russian vaccine is genuine but you need to be totally detached from reality to believe haggling about ±2 percentage points is the way to win the markets.

Putin and his whole entourage is totally bipolar in this aspect.

@neil Pre-ticked wouldn't be as bad, look what they're actually doing - it's pre-ticked and to be honest I have no idea whether I should untick or leave ticked to opt-out.

@neil I use Aftershokz since a friend (from Mastodon!) recommended them and absolutely pleased. In a plane they require ear plugs as the background noise is too loud but all taken together they are much smaller and more durable than any over-the-ear headphones.

What is honesty worth to you?

This year I decided that I'll spend 60€ per year on @fdroidorg, because it's the honest appstore for me. They build the apps themselves, making sure, no hidden trackers are included. And they provide a list of so-called "anti-features" at the bottom of the description of each app that warns you about potential problems.

This takes away all "Is this a surveilence app?"-questions when browsing for apps. It's awesome, thank you.
