Anatomy of a Disinformation Empire: Investigating NaturalNews

This report presents the findings of an extensive investigation into a network of domains connected to NaturalNews, a US-based commercial enterprise
and website promoting conspiracy theories and disinformation.

Using a combination of data analysis and open source intelligence (OSINT), this study examines the scale and nature of the NaturalNews network, including its reach on Facebook, its connections to and promotion of far-right and extremist ideology and its activities in relation to COVID-19 and the protests associated with the killing of George Floyd.

Today on Welcome to the Internet:

This person *drew* a RISC-V, single cycle, CPU by hand, scanned it to Logisim Evolution, and played the Bad Apple video on it

That's a whole new approach to #HardwareHacking

Nice, 2019 Russian series "Plague" (Эпидемия) with Kirill Kyaro has been just published on Netflix in UK... Except it's called "To the lake" for some reason.

In last 3 days 4 anarchists were kidnapped by the undercover cops from political wing of criminal police. 3 of them were already sentenced to 15 days in prison. 1 more person is still awaiting for the trial. #Belarus On the photo one of the activists.

Reminds me of an old Polish song telling how the work of a welder is transforming the worker, and how the mystical electric arc works like an energy drink.

Enjoy.

Utilitarian: to reduce income disparity in the society beyond levels at which they threaten stability.

Based on Christian/Muslim ethics: because it's the right thing to do.

@profoundlynerdy @changaco

In terms of maths, it depends on the implementation.

UBI is no different from social benefits that almost all countries have except that they're mostly conditional (for child, for unemployed, for homeless etc) while UBI is simply unconditional, granted to everyone.

Then UBI can be compared against tax free income, or income threshold for which you don't pay income tax, that is universal except it only applies to people who earn money from employment.

@profoundlynerdy @changaco

Laffer curve is about taxation so these are really orthogonal concepts. There's nothing in either UBI or Laffer curve concepts that makes them mutually contradictory etc.

There's valid concern that UBI would increase inflation and/or prices, but in countries that introduced similar programs and faced similar concerns this did not happen.

The new European Citizens' Initiative for Unconditional Basic Income has been launched. It will be examined by the commission if one million citizens support it, so I invite you to sign it and share it: eci.ec.europa.eu/014/public/#/

Why do I care? Because #Python 3.9 has two very nice features:

- The removeprefix() and removesuffix() string methods, because HELL YES something to stop me from abusing strip()

- The | operator to merge dicts, and |= to update a dict. Oh yessss.

@jasper Adapt for housing I guess, this is the most scarce commodity in the UK, that impacts everything else.

Reproductive rights, UK, pharmacy refusing emergency contraception

@GwenfarsGarden It's a bit like Jehovah's Witnesses working in a blood transfusion yard in hospital...

@werekat

Ah, I understand the joke now - and yes, it's also found in Polish as ŁAJNO which looks similar but the Ł makes a big difference in pronounciation - it's no longer like лайно but becomes something like уайно (if this makes any sense).

@werekat

Well, лайн is easily understood by anyone working in IT, if this is where it comes from? Proper noun would be "linia".

"Obuzdać" exists in Polish - put "uzda" (bridle) on a horse, metaphorically "control something or someone".

"Moc" is quite straightforward too.
