> oil companies try to rebrand themselves as environmental

And you're absolutely right that fossil fuel companies did sponsor environmental NGOs to raise anti-nuclear arguments. This is documented in case of Friends of the Earth, Sierra Club, Environmental Defense Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council. Greenpeace does not reveal their funding.

@nicksellen

I'm really pleased that you eventually acknowledge Green Party, RPSB, Greenpeace and the Campaign to Protect Rural England - who all came up against that Kent solar farm - as "lobby groups posing as a grassroots organisations". All the remaining part of your argument stands valid for them too.

A big drama in the UK as Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace discover that solar farms occupy plenty of space and cannot decide what is more evil: 7 hectares of nuclear power plant or 298 km2 of solar power plant.

Pure fantasy:

"So we have these... um, problems, you know... these problems and... I've been talking... by the way... Mr Putin also had problems... but different than us... liberals say we have um... civil war... but um, Mr Putin has other problems... and he is like... my good friend, you know... and he offered... help... you know, like with these insulators.. no, um... ventilators... except um, this time... he's got these... volunteers, you know... to help us make America great again"

@andreas

Reminds me of Frederic Bastiat's

"From the Manufacturers of Candles, Tapers, Lanterns, sticks, Street Lamps, Snuffers, and Extinguishers, and from Producers of Tallow, Oil, Resin, Alcohol, and Generally of Everything Connected with Lighting." (1845)

Oh we have the most cases in Europe here in the UK but nobody cares about masks etc either. Ok, I'm unfair to say "nobody" but vast majority doesn't.

@freemo

Precisely my concern. With the amount of weapons and emotions accumulated, it just needs a spark now.

@freemo

Been there, seen that. Lots of wise speeches for decades prior to 1792 partition of Poland, then 1917 revolution in Russia. Humans rarely give up on privileges once earned, until they are taken away from them.

Right now I think we need the words of the Great late MArtin Luther King Jr.

Here are his words on riots:

Here's a good thread on the actual science behind policing without unnecessary violence and abuse.

This topic seems to be well-researched with evidence-based solutions which *do* work in places where they were implemented.

Obviously, due to the fact that US is a federal republic, these policies are implemented selectively in different areas, and you never see the good examples in media...

@dump_stack @rysiek

PS there was a typo above - it should read "I'm not speaking specifically about you" obviously.

@dump_stack @rysiek

> Why would you think so?

Oh no, I'm NOT speaking specifically about you. Just another way of saying "one would say".

> t's as much "denial game" as it's an "accusing game"

Correct, but remember where it all started - from a very detailed and clearly targeted story by Russia Today intended at blaming Ukrainian Air Force with downing MH17.

@dump_stack @rysiek

> they're evil, not stupid

As anyone working in information security you're perfectly aware that opsec failures happen to everyone in the cybercrime industry. These are complex operations involving humans and humans make mistakes.

@dump_stack @rysiek

The facts:

1) there was no Spanish air controllers in Kyiv

2) this account came up with a completely invented story about MH17 posing as Spanish air controller

3) Russia Today, MoD, Putin, TASS etc repeated it continuously as an authoritative source knowing it's bullshit

4) this sudden name change to "Lyudmila" did happen and I saw it myself

At this stage whether how much he was paid by RT, as he claims, is quite a secondary issue for me...

@dump_stack @rysiek

If there were documents, you'd say they're fake :) Sorry, but this denial game can be continued forever as you can always question every single bit of evidence published.

Some people in Russia even started claiming various execution orders signed by Stalin published by Russian archives were fakes.

@dump_stack @rysiek

Quite a fascinating story actually as it involved even Putin and Oliver Stone repeating the fable that was from the very beginning invented by RT staff
