Note: I started wondering when I realized I was in Russia from end of December and 2 weeks in January, and I got quite ill, with temperature and strong cough, which very rarely happens to me. So when I recalled that recently, I had these obvious associations of course. On second thought, it was most likely just a regular cold, because no one else from our expedition got it and I was still able to the work, just feeling like shit.

Interesting case of Russia's spread of . Everything started in China in December, annual traffic from China to Russia is 2 million people, which continued for 1-2 months until Russia closed borders in end of January.

Yet, most of confirmed cases is concentrated in Moscow (11k) and official number of cases in towns like Krasnoyarsk, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk (closest to China) is nominal which seems unlikely.

I'm just wondering if what we see in Russia now is not a *second* wave...

also very cool that they’re looking to use Olm to secure the signalling already :-)

“Any way you cut it, this is going to be bad,” a senior medical adviser at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Dr. Carter Mecher, wrote on the night of Jan. 28, in an email to a group of public health experts scattered around the government and universities. “The projected size of the outbreak already seems hard to believe.”

@Wetrix Yes it's quite interesting because while Ethereum & friends just provide technical means to send money and then you can implement economies in smart contracts, this Ğ1 comes with a whole economic model.

Are you one of those people only using Facebook because it's where people invite you to events? Well, now's the perfect time to #DeleteFacebook.

As we discussed with many people here on what are actual "success criteria" of a political and economic system, I tend to agree that GDP on its own is largely distorted because it does not reflect inequality.

Here's an interesting publication that shows a very strong correlation between GNI per capita and mortality due to infectious diseases. In short: wealthier countries better protect people from infectious diseases.

Sounds like a great idea to get rid of - rather than nag people to solve silly riddles on each page separately, have a cryptographic and privacy-preserving protocol specifically for proving you're human. From user's perspective this works pretty seamlessly, under the hood there's some interesting crypto and proof-of-work protocol.
