> turn the heating down or off in your home. Or even just in rooms you spend less time in. Wear clothes that match the seasons
I know this is an unpopular opinion in the UK but many countries routinely use something called "house insulation" to avoid the need to wear winter coats *inside* your house :)
Social media like Facebook or VK are incentivized by hype, bias and emotional triggers, even if totally fake. What exclusively counts is the user engagement, all the enthusiastic and angry comments, likes and dislikes being of equal value for the operator. None of this crap is present on #Wikipedia, which is a good example how platform motivation and structure *does* matter.

"/e/ OS is about freedom of choice. We want the core system to be better, and then offer as many possible options to users, by informing them as much as possible. In short: they can still any application they need. Next step will be to offer a feature to actually block trackers used in applications." "There's also a more subtle effect of this performance loss: waste of electricity. Regardless of how fast your computer is, making it work harder makes it eat more electricity. So #JavaScript code is both increasing energy costs and contributing to #ClimateChange. You can see this for yourself by measuring how long your laptop battery lasts with and without JavaScript turned on in your browser."

Here's an excellent flow chart laying out the many reasons why over-use of #Javascript in websites is a bad idea, even for serving users who don't habitually block some or all JS:

Vitamin C is just as effective against viruses as cocaine I'm afraid.
I wanted to welcome Harry Chen PhD to #QOTO his account is @HarryChenPhD
He lives in China, and from what I can tell is currently living in Wuhan, the epicenter of the #coronavirus where he posts videos updating us all on the situation. He labels himself as a "renegade journalist".
He was recently banned from twitter because, well, China doesnt really like renegades or journalists. So we are proud to act as a platform to help him host his videos and get the word out on how things develop. Consider following him.
You can read a bit about how twitter oppressed his freedom of speech and what ultimately brought him to the fediverse at these two links:

@CyberSocialist I think you can clone their repo quite easily. But since it's huuuge I don't think torrent makes much sense because you'd need to either download it as a whole or laboriously select files. Something like dat:// protocol would be more effective I guess.
“In this critical decade we must expand the suite of clean energy options to include nuclear products that are cost competitive, easier to buy, easier to deliver, present lower risk to investors and can meet a broad range of market applications,” civil society leaders declared today in a document presented to the governments of the UK and Canada. About the huge difference between common perception of the state of the world versus the reality. Very surprising and inspiring.
