@lazarski Chaos is not feature of capitalism per se, but of humans, and of any dynamic system in general. Any non-capitalist systems built by people out there were absolutely no less chaotic.

In the Welsh Christmas tradition of Mari Lwyd, a horse skul lvisits your home singing rhymes outside your door

Wholesome Pyromaniac:
"That's not even the best part. The person inside needs to sing back with excuses why Lwyd can’t come in. It goes back and forth until one gives up. If the person in the house can't respond, they let Lwyd in and it gets to raid your pantry and drink all your beer."

Mozilla just decided on Matrix for their preferred replacement for IRC. discourse.mozilla.org/t/synchr

I might consider trying that out again. At least for cases where Mastodon doesn't really excel.

Of course, I still want to create an IRC/slack-like interface to Mastodon that creates rooms out of hashtags. But, out of scope for life.

@sheogorath Not from my point of view. It's a trade-off.

Having WhatsApp app on your phone means not only giving FB access to your location and sensors but also exposing yourself to zero-day exploits like the one used by Pegasus.

On the other hand, I don't care about the confidentiality of my correspondence with people who use WhatsApp because it's largely compromised on their end anyway.

@sheogorath Yeah, I just saw it in Twillio interface a few days ago - this is how I found out it exists :)

@rysiek Ok, dzięki - i tak się wybieram turystycznie do .is w nieodległej przyszłości :)

@sheogorath That's the whole point - WhatsApp Business allows messaging with an API and without a mobile app.

I suppose you don't have the same E2EE as with mobile but I don't care - I just need it to be reachable to friends abroad who are stuck to WA for life and won't switch to Signal or Matrix :)

Google engineer fired for telling workers their labor rights

@acrata

"For a company that holds personal information about billions of people’s lives, the company is afraid of its workers even knowing their own legal rights to organize to hold the company accountable" <-- This so much

Just learned that

gpg2 --default-new-key-algo ed25519 --generate-key

will generate a signing-only key.

Use

gpg2 --expert --full-generate-key

and select ECC, ECC options to get "ed25519" signing key and "cv25519" people can encrypt to

#gpg

Seems that Mozilla and Mullvad are teaming up to provide Wireguard VPN service soon.

@rysiek Unfortunately, I'm quite bad at social media (federated or otherwise). But, I want to give a shout out to two associated projects: OpenPGP CA, a tool to make using PGP in an organization trivial (gitlab.com/hkos/openpgp-ca) and Umschlagend, an encryption remailer that you can put in front of a service to signing and or encrypt outgoing mails (gitlab.com/umschlagend/umschla).

@sheogorath Yeah, that's what I'm talking about - it needs an Android emulator running 24/7 with the WhatsApp app :)
