Final tally: a tiny @Raspberry_Pi Zero W, running Site.js over a WiFi connection from my desk, & exposed to the Interwebs via @ngrokapp, served over 7,000 requests (mostly dynamic Node.js) in a little experiment we just ran.

"Facebook isn't neutral turf on which good ideas will naturally prevail over bad ones, John Stuart Mill-style. It's an advertising-driven business whose design deliberately promotes its own peculiar idea of "engagement." axios.com/costs-facebook-free-

@nikolal It is indeed. At the same it's also quite logical step for the advertisers.

I've deleted my FB and Google accounts, now thinking about 123andme too.

@nikolal A friend of mine just suggested one specific example of DNA-driven advertising:

A cancer treatment even before you're diagnosed.

> Marketing: We clarified that 23andMe will not use your genetic and other sensitive information for targeted advertising without your explicit consent.

Genetic information for targeted advertising WTF?!

"Nuclear power, whatever its detractors might claim, is a low-carbon energy source, roughly comparable to renewables in terms of total emissions. To shut down viable nuclear capacity in the midst of a climate change emergency (now, in other words), as Germany and Japan have done, is a refined form of madness, especially when at least some of that capacity is likely to be replaced by gas or coal, whose carbon emissions are much higher." theguardian.com/commentisfree/

@lazarski Mildly oppose because of their anti-scientific position on energy which is also totally counterproductive in terms of emissions reduction.

You can tell Google to fsck themselves with their "payment policy" by simply installing Wireguard from F-Droid which I've been doing since version 1 news.slashdot.org/story/19/10/

Also tons of other cool apps on F-Droid, all open-source, carefully checked for privacy violations and built from source.

“We bring together SF authors, economists, technologists, activists and just regular people like us, to envision different economic systems. We are not interested in tweaks, one percentage point of budget deficit more or less. By “different” we mean RADICALLY different. And these systems need to be ROCK SOLID, not some kind of delusional fantasy good for another round of electoral promises.”

If the CASE Act passes, an obscure board within the U.S. Copyright Office will be able to hand out $30,000 penalties to everyday Internet users. It’s a bad idea that’s ripe for abuse. eff.org/deeplinks/2019/10/toda

@Wetrix I know where you're coming from beause like 10 years ago I was very skeptical and raising the same popular myths against AGW.

The science behind AGW is solid and reliable. I studied chemistry so eventually I went into all the journals to check on my own and changed my mind.

The problem is that activists on both sides - including Greenpeace and XR now - lied a lot about it to push their political agendas. But this has nothing to do with science.

@Wetrix If you read again carefully you'll see the key part: MWP was *regional* phenomenon. Current AGW is a *global* phenomenon, which has much larger impact on the *whole* planet.

The bluish shows MWP average temperatures difference vs 20th century and you can clearly see that it was warmer in *some* places but globally it was actually colder than today.

The redish picture shows temperature difference 20th century vs today.

Can you spot the difference?

@CyberSocialist

Just realised one beautiful fact about Mastodon: *zero* Trump reposts.

I blocked DT on Twitter long time ago to stop seeing his imbecile tirades, but enough of my friends have strong feelings about him to either reply or retweet his posts with angry comments.

This is naïve. Nobody cares about your comments, what counts is *number* of engagements. Once you made your mind, stop *any interactions* with his posts. Otherwise you're just another cog in the wheel of his media machine.
