"The spotter logs from May 5 and 6 put Russian pilots above each hospital at the time they were struck, and the Air Force audio recordings from that day feature Russian pilots confirming each bombing. Videos obtained from witnesses and verified by The Times confirmed three of the strikes." nytimes.com/2019/10/13/world/m

Elizabeth Warren is now running FB ads with a false statement about Mark Zuckerberg and FB endorsing Trump for president, to draw attention to FB's controversial policy allowing politicians to make false statements in ads. Because she's a politician, the usual FB policies don't apply to her lol amp.cnn.com/cnn/2019/10/11/pol

Ok, so we now have a shortlist of contenders for the new name of our little browser-based censorship circumvention project.

Let's vote!

The vote will not be necessarily binding, but I want to see if my feel about these names is correct.

Thank you all for helping out and suggesting the names! Special shout-outs to @pelican3301 , @Shufei , @mjjzf and others who suggested some names.

"Challenges in the Decentralised Web: The Mastodon Case" (PDF) emilianodc.com/PAPERS/mastodon

Interesting academic paper analyzing the fediverse and how different instances and users are connected to one another. It's cool that the Mastodon API is open enough that researchers can do this kind of work.

@darylsun One of the best features of PeerTube is that it's federated too - so when you search, your instance will show results from all other instances it federates with too.

I suppose this search engine provides results also from not federated instances, so it's still useful.

Hi.

Google makes huge contributions to influential climate change deniers. So does Amazon.

One, a republican think tank (of course), was influential in convincing Trump to leave the Paris agreement and dismantle other environmental protections.

If you thought "The Great Hack" was terrifying, check out "Do You Trust This Computer" (2018) - it's free on YouTube and Prime Video. Of all the recent documentaries on Artificial Intelligence and it's implications, this one is my favorite.

@sparks Interesting, so that's the loophole they're using:

"Apple allows anyone with an Apple ID to install apps they’ve built themselves onto their devices for testing. AltStore uses your Apple ID to communicate with Apple's servers on your behalf and perform the necessary steps to prepare your account for installing apps onto your device."

Google has made “substantial” contributions to some of the most notorious climate deniers in Washington despite its insistence that it supports political action on the climate crisis.

I am extremely happy that @matrixdotorg@twitter.com has responded to the community's concerns and have put in a lot of effort to make Synapse and Riot a more privacy friendly place 😄 — Very glad to recommend them again for group chats on privacytools.io: github.com/privacytoolsIO/priv

Is there anything like F-Droid for iPhone, or you can only install what is approved by the Cupertino Censors?

Apple has yanked an app called HKmap.live from its app store just days after approving it. The app used crowdsourcing to track the location of protestors and police officers in real time. The app's anonymous author says it's intended to help people in Hong Kong stay safe by avoiding potentially dangerous areas.
