This "there's no such thing as society" quote allegedly from Margaret Thatcher is beloved by neocons (exhibit #1) who make some kind of Ayn Rand selfish god of her, and among leftists, who make some kind of Ayn Rand devil of her.
In reality, Thatcher's quote is about social cohesion: society isn't some abstract overlord, quite the opposite - society is *you* and your neighbour and other people around. Society gives to you, you need to contribute too.
