@kaia
Isn't that the guy who saved more than he earned per month while paying a laughably low rent to his parents and also received a free car out of the blue?

@ScumbagDog
I did not investigate, but I'd presume you are right on the money so to speak

@kaia
It says in the article he saved 1200Β£/month on a 14kΒ£/year salary, which is possible if you round down, but not so if you consider that he also pays 2kΒ£/yr for a car, 120Β£/month in rent, and that food isn't even counted. The numbers just don't add up, as he should be paying closer to 17kΒ£/year, maybe even 18

@ScumbagDog

I wouldn't really treat this article in terms of honest economic advice. It seems more like a redemption for everyone who thinks UK real estate market is healthy and competitive, and young to middle aged people are renting because they prefer so.

Eastern European perspective: people in the UK spend enormous amounts of money on dining out and other non-essential stuff but cutting on that wouldn't allow you to save for a house deposit.

Probably would tbqh.

@Eris

My estimate was based on my drinking profile 😁 I have a brewery 15 mins walk from home though πŸ˜‚

Club cover fee + hugely inflated drink prices + hugely inflated drink prices for the first girl you hit on + hugely inflated drink prices for the second girl you hit on (etc) + uber/cab + shitty takeout food.
That's a lot of money to spend every weekend.

@Eris

Agreed. My expenses are usually limited to 3 beers or so. It seems expensive to be a young adult in the UK πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ On the other hand, ROI on the "club girls" doesn't seem to be very good if reproductive success requires repeated attempts, at high cost, every weekend.

Yet, people do frequent them as if driven by some irresistible herd instinct.
