In Q3 2020 stablecoins were moving about the same in daily trading volume than the country of Japan. There's been speculation that it gained popularity for moving large cross border transactions with a much faster settlement

And this author proposes that if the US and other countries ever make stablecoins illegal they'll move to the next best thing, the new digital RMB from China.

So it's in the best interests of the US to protect the dollar as global reserve currency by letting stablecoins continue

I had a lot of hopes for DAI and especially DSR but then the Ethereum price crisis and gas price made it quite useless.

@kravietz NFT minting seems to be making gas spike pretty high right now but at least 1559 works as designed and you can just submit with a lower max fee and wait for the price to catch you when it comes down / when everyone backs off from the exponential growth or whatever when blocks are too full. I've done that successfully when in the past you'd just be stuck pending forever
