Do you *really* have to replace carbon monoxide detectors on the date they say in the outside, or does the battery just need changing? π€¨

Both electrochemical and semiconductor CO detectors seem to have lifetime of 5-10 years, which is understandable granted the chemical deterioration of sensing elements:
