PV and wind generators transform Sun energy that reaches Earth anyway and without them would heat the air and ground. However, PV and wind do not come for free - their construction requires massive material inputs, and these inputs are largely... mined.
@kravietz @saxnot @tobbsn True, even renewable energy doesn't come entirely for free. As to the question what's a worthwhile use, there is certainly a hierarchy of needs, with lots of room for debate after the basic needs are met (and with lots of room for debate on how best to make use of energy and economy to meet these ends) ...
