Scammers pretending to be HMRC, UK
Had one of those scam HMRC calls this morning. That if I didn't call back straight away, they would be starting legal action.
The thing is, I'm currently in the process of closing our company (tiny company consisting of just my partner and I) and was talking to our accountant just yesterday about letting HMRC know (they said they'd handle that).
So I don't know if it was a weird coincidence or what (how would scammers know I was having this discussion, I'm pretty carefully with security?), but thankfully I did work out straight away that it was a scam call.
Ironically, my experience is that HMRC will do everything it can to NOT speak to you, and force you to use online and automated systems. But maybe others aren't aware of this. So just in case, if you get a voicemail/call out of the blue from HMRC, it's probably a scam, so don't respond!

@kravietz no, it was a long message on my phone.
This has happened a few times now, where they seem to call earlier in the day. It just happens to be that I have my phone sounds turned off between 9:30pm and 10am, so I always miss them because they call in that period!
