In 1920 Poland in a desperate effort defeated Red Army who approached Warsaw in their Westward campaign (1918-1920) and resulted in Soviet occupation of Baltics, Belarus and Ukraine. They still came back for Poland in 1939, but at least the damage inflicted lasted 50 rather than 70 years. Norman Davies discusses the impact of that battle on its 100th anniversary.
