Apparently, the danish songwriter's union (KODA) is in conflict with Google over how much YouTube should pay musicians.

If you tomorrow suddenly can't listen to Volbeat, Aqua, D-A-D, or Alfabeat on youtube, it's because KODA hasn't allowed the current licensing deal to be extended.

This is your irregularly scheduled Scandinavian reminder to join a union!
(I'm a member of two; KODA is one of them)

@zatnosk I'm certainly not going to listen to Aqua but Volbeat is on Spotify and is pretty good :)

@kravietz I think you're unlikely to find any danish artists that are on youtube but aren't on spotify :)

@zatnosk

That's my point, if they were cut from whatever income they were getting on YT, we can help by playing them on Spotify I guess.

@kravietz I think buying a single album gives them more money than listening to their music on either youtube or spotify for a year does.

@zatnosk Do you mean like a CD or vinyl? What would I do with it? πŸ˜‚

@kravietz rip it and upload the .flac files to a personal FunkWhale instance and stream it from there :blobcoffee:

And put it on a shelf somewhere to show off the probably nice coverart. Who needs a bookshelf, when you can have an albumshelf?
