As a diehard Ubuntu user for years I've just been using Manjaro with Sway on my Pinebook for a few weeks now and I must say I love all three!

@kravietz I was near 15 years #ubuntu and recently went #manjaro. Not looked back, although I salute Ubuntu as both highly useable and a fantastic starter (and longer term!) distro

@davidoclubb

100% agree, for my dad I installed Ubuntu and it "just works" while Manjaro is much better for a developer/admin.

P.S. Cymru am byth! I'm caving and hiking in South Wales frequently πŸ˜€

@kravietz Ah...I used to be a caver as a teen. Llangattock escarpment.. all around south Wales with the Dolygaer outdoor education centre.

@davidoclubb We usually do caves in Powys valley, and when the weather is too nice to go underground I usually Pen-y-Fan loop :)

@davidoclubb @kravietz I've been eyeing Arch, but been put off by its manual configuration requirements. How is manjaro in that respect? I've been eager to move from Ubuntu, but I don't want to spend hours reading wiki's πŸ€”

@krash @kravietz I was like you. Not super-techy...comfortable with Ubuntu and not wanting to dive into configuration with Arch.

I would say that #Manjaro is a nice next step from #Ubuntu. You are probably familiar with doing a bit of trouble-shooting, navigating solutions from forums etc, so you will be fine with Manjaro which does a lot of the heavy lifting for you

@krash @kravietz That said...I still killed several installations before arriving at my current setup. Which I haven't killed for ... four months!! But that was also a feature of my early use of Ubuntu to be fair.

@davidoclubb @kravietz That sounds doable. And having a rolling distro that's always up-to-date sounds like a dream. Maybe I'll fire up one of my old machines this weekend and get Manjaro on it for fun 🐧

@krash @kravietz I wouldn't overstate the benefit of having a rolling distro (I guess it's under the hood so I never really know the difference with major updates), and I did used to love waiting for the .04 or .10 upgrades...but I guess there are modest efficiencies etc which are constantly being implemented
