I have never regretted not going to college/uni for my career - I've been very successful - but I regret the fuck out of it because it basically traps me in the US with very few options for immigration

@sir In EU and UK no client will ask you this question. I was kicked out of uni in 90's after 3 years of full-time job in IT instead of studying chemical engineering - and literally nobody asked me about my graduation ever since.

@kravietz oh for sure, but the immigration bureau definitely will.

@sir I see no way UK immigration would cause issues to a successful IT business owner coming from US

@kravietz depends on the definition of success. These kinds of visas almost always have a capital requirement, which means I have to stop investing in the business and start hoarding money if I wanted to take that approach. Which I might, but it'll take some savings to do

@sir @kravietz

for UK provided you have enough savings and your confirmed UK earnings are over a certain amount (varies with employment sector) the immigration authorities don't ask about your qualifications (they do check your employment is legit).

I don't know what the situation is for rest of Europe but its likely to be fairly similar.

@kravietz
Can confirm. No one has ever once asked me for my college paper. No one cares, so long as you do the job.
Not saying going back to school was a waste of time - it wasn't. I enjoyed it and valued the new paths it taught me to study. The paper is just a memento of how you gained the knowledge. There are other ways.
@sir

@gemlog @kravietz the paper is a necessary instrument of immigration. Once you have a legal right to work in a place then yeah, no one gives a shit, but if you DON'T have that, it's pretty fucking important

@sir
I thought we were speaking about academic credentials in the workplace. sorry.
