But Slavic languages are even more fun between them - if you're Pole in Russia (or the other way around) you have this great feeling that you almost understand everything... and then you hear a combination that just fries your brain 😂

For example 🇵🇱 sklep (shop) means in 🇷🇺 catafalk. 🇵🇱 uroda (beauty) means 🇷🇺 ugly person. So you can imagine how funny situations you can get yourself into 😂

@kravietz @NHonigdachs 🇷🇺 "склеп" does not mean "catafalk", it means "burial vault" or kinda. Catafalk is a vehicle to transport the dead in a coffin. But yeah, that's still pretty fun :)

So you are Polish who knows Russian? Interesting!

Yes, I wasn't very good at the burial terminology 😃 I speak quite good Russian, travel to Russia too.

Very likely, most -ski have some Polish origins. In 17-19 century there was a lot of mixing of Polish and Russian families as well as lot of cultural exchange, which unfortunately later stopped almost completely as USSR was perceived as an occupier. Today few people speak Russian in Poland and few know Russian literature, especially modern.

Nothing prevents us from looking at Russian literature and culture in a new way today - I always highlight that Russia != Putin when talking to my friends.

@kravietz @NHonigdachs I totally understand that for sure. But current Putin's regime doesn't allow us to build this bridges: both cultural and economical. Our propagandist machine shows Europe and especially Poland almost as something tainted, experiencing a deep moral decline (what they called here 'загнивающий запад'). In some cases they even write your into a lines of Nazi accomplices.

What kind of dialogue can we talk about when the entire government machine is trying to create such an opinion among the population?
